Once the installation in WordPress is finished, it is necessary to make certain adjustments, for the proper functioning of our blog. In this guide, you’ll see screenshots and I’ll explain every Essential WordPress setup in 5-10 minutes.
So, let’s get started with our WordPress Setup guide and learn how to set up the WordPress blog. If this is your first time, this guide will help you understand how to work with WordPress.
Here is a list of the essential settings that we will apply after installing WordPress:

- Configure WordPress permalinks (Indispensable)

Delete Unnecessary Content
After installing WordPress, you’ll see a dummy post (Hello World), a dummy page (sample page), and a dummy comment. It is highly recommended to remove any unnecessary content. You can easily remove it from your WordPress dashboard. You can see the photos below:
(Delete the WordPress Post from Hello World!)

Change Site Title, Slogan, and Time Zone
To change the site title, slogan and time zone, we must go to Settings // General from your WordPress panel.
We need to change the title and slogan of the site as they will appear in Google search results.
(Edit the site title and slogan in WordPress)

Select www or non-www version of the website
You will see some websites with the www prefix like www.google.com on the other hand, you will see a website without the www prefix, for example youtube.com.
You can use any option, but most large companies use the www prefix with their domain name.
If you do not use the prefix www, some think that this does not affect the SEO of your website (Personally, I think it does, because each character in the permalink is important).
This means that it is your personal choice whether or not you want to use the www prefix for the domain name.
In WordPress, if you want to use this prefix, you need to go to Settings // General. Then you will see this page.
You must add the www prefix, then click the Save button. Then your WordPress session will be automatically closed, then you will need to log in again. You can now see the www prefix with your domain name.
Setup WordPress Permalinks
Set up WordPress permalinks (Indispensable). You must go to Settings >> Permalinks to change the structure of permalinks, To /%category%/%postname%/
The default structure of permalinks is: http://yourwebsite.com/?p=123
Should be changed to: http://yourwebsite.com/first-wordpress-post
We have to change it because it is not easy for search engines to use. So we have to change it to the job name.
This change is essential, because it affects your positioning in web search engines.
Enable / Disable User Registration
If you enable this option, only then will users be able to register on your website. You must enable this option if you want to use guest blogs on your website. You can define your default role. You can see a list of roles and permissions they have so you can decide whether to enable user registration or not.
Administrator: the administrator will have access to all the administration functions of the website.
Editor: The editor creates and manages articles. They can also manage messages from another user.
Author: Authors can only publish and manage their own articles.
Contributor: Contributors can write and manage their own posts, but cannot post them.
Subscriber: Subscribers can only manage their profile.
There is a possibility that you may receive spam logs, so there are add-ons available that can help you get rid of this spam problem.
It is recommended to use plugins like WangGuard to stop registering users who only spam and it works well.
Configure Reading Settings
Reading settings are very important if you want to use a static page as the first page of your website or if you want to increase / decrease posts per page.
To read the parameters, you must go to Options Settings / Reading. If you want to use a static page as the first page of your website, select the A static page option, then select a page from the page list.
If you haven’t created a page yet, you can go to the pages // Add page where you can create pages and if you want to increase / decrease the number of posts per page you can change it from the blog display pages in most options .
Just enter a value here. By default it is 10 but you can change it.
Install a Good Theme
Time to install a good blog theme. WordPress offers many fun and free themes that you can use on your blog. To install a new theme, you need to go to Appearance // Themes
Recommendation: Spend a maximum of 15 minutes choosing a theme, priority should be to create content
You will see the list of installed themes. If you want to add a new theme, you must click on the Add new option, and you will see below this screen:
All wordpress themes have an excellent free version, it should be noted that the pro version includes many more tools..
Improve Website Loading Speed
Page loading speed is very important, if your website is slow loading this will prevent visitors from accessing your website. Therefore, the page load speed plays a very important role in attracting new visitors. In WordPress, there are many plugins available that can help increase the loading speed of website pages. Remember to follow the simple steps to install a new plugin in wordpress.
Here are some Free plugins:
